The Northwest Event show was a fantastic experience, and great success again this year for Green Apple! Attendees enjoyed a variety of fantastic food and drink at the show, and got to view some amazing decor as well! Green Apple saw many friends of the business, and enjoyed talking to everyone who stopped by and said hello! We also loved meeting some new faces, and getting to know these folks and their businesses.

Green Apple partnered with "Animate Objects Physical Theatre" on our booth this year. "Animate Objects Physical Theatre" is a local company that boasts a wealth of talent and creativity. The company was responsible for our stilt walkers and roving table that were a big hit at the event! At this point, Green Apple has established a reputation for fantastic food and great service, but many clients still don't realize all the creative options we have for events! Between unique decor, partnering with "Animate Objects Physical Theatre", and our creative menus Green Apple has made strides with our overall event experience for the client. That being said, The Northwest Event Show apparently agreed, naming Green Apple's 2011 booth "Most Creative"! A big thank you to the Northwest Event Show for the recognition; it's truly an honor!

Kris Brown and Green Apple's Head Chef Cari Noren recently conducted an appetizer cooking class at the Matthews Winery Estate House. The May 14th event went great as always, and it was an pleasure to work with Matthews Winery to coordinate the event. The menu for the class featured Green Apple signature appetizers hand-chosen by Chef Cari for our group. The class was guided through creating Caramelized Onion Tartlets with Parmesan Mousse, Grape Salsa on Goat Cheese Crostini, Red Wine & Herb Marinated Beef Satay, and finally a batch of delicious Chocolate Dipped Strawberries. The class was an awesome opportunity for our guests to get affordable cooking instruction from a Culinary Institute Graduate while enjoying fantastic wine from Matthews Estate Winery, and of course enjoying their own amazing cooking! Kris, and Chef Cari were delighted to get to spend time with all of our guests at the event, and had a great time leading the class. Thank you to all those who spent the afternoon with us at Matthews Estate Winery!

Mardi Gras Fun and Fundraising at 415 Westlake!

Green Apple recently catered an event for the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research at 415 Westlake. 415 Westlake is a amazing and unique northwest venue located in the emerging South Lake Union neighborhood. The venue offers 5,000 square feet of space that is truly a blank canvas to be molded into the perfect setting for any event. Normally, we detail highlights of the night, and our amazing menus for the event on blog posts; this week the team at Green Apple feels its important to feature the non-profit groups Green Apple collaborated with for this event. It was such a treat to be able to participate in this event, and know that our hard work was for a group raising money to help find improved treatments for cancer. The evening was organized by the Les Faeries Vertes group and proceeds went to the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer.

The Les Faeries Vertes is a unique and amazing non-profit group that aims to raise money and do good in their community while having a great time in the process! Here is how they describe their group on the "About Us" section of their website:

"Les Faeries Vertes (The Green Fairies) is a Seattle based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2008 by a group of friends who aim to do good for their community and at the same time have fun doing it! We are modeled after the Mardi Gras krewe organizations of New Orleans, Louisiana and Mobile, Alabama. Our mission is to support local charities while introducing people to the culture and fun of Mardi Gras.

Each year our membership selects a local/regional charity for which we throw a Mardi Gras benefit ball in February or March. Throughout the rest of the year, we produce smaller events to raise funds for our selected charities. These events can range from a Cajun cookout in Ballard or the Central District to a themed cocktail party on Capitol Hill."

The Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer mission statement is a lofty but important goal, it reads as follows: "To save lives and reduce suffering through improved treatment, early detection, and prevention of ovarian cancer." There is also some basic goals the center strives to achieve.

GOALS
To impact the lives of women with ovarian cancer now and in the near future
To foster research relative to improving outcomes in ovarian cancer
To influence the national research direction taken in ovarian cancer
To develop collaborative networks and create a scientific community that will be the leaders in ovarian cancer research
To partner with the community so that they will take on the task of working toward the cure for ovarian cancer
To disseminate findings nationally to increase the number of investigators interested in ovarian cancer research and create dynamic research connections

Year of The Rabbit | Chinese New Year Party with Expedia

Green Apple recently catered a Chinese New Year Party for Expedia at their offices in Bellevue. The Green Apple team was extremely excited to work with the local travel giant! The party was for 800 people, and spanned three floors of the building. Green Apple served Vegetarian Pot Stickers Served with Ginger Soy Dipping Sauce as well as a house made BBQ Pork served with Hot Mustard, Ketchup & Sesame Seeds. The delicious spread also featured Fresh Vegetarian Spring Rolls, and an absolutely fantastic Yaki Soba Noodle Salad served in Chinese To-Go Boxes. One of the standouts, as usual, was Chef Cari's Sweet & Sour Chicken Satay! Green Apple finished off the menu with some unique and Chinese New Year inspired deserts; Coconut Cream Puffs, and a Green Tea Mousse served in a chocolate cup and garnished with a sake
marinated cherry. The party went very smoothly, and the decorations were great. There was even a dragon! Thank you to Expedia's staff for being such amazing guests! Check out the photos below!

Green Apple's Seahawks Tail Gate Party!

Green Apple owners Cheryl Seaton & Kris Brown have always been diehard Hawks fans; so naturally when it comes to pre-game tailgate parties the sisters go all out! For last Saturdays Hawk's game, the sisters had a tailgate that was a cut above the rest. The massive and delicious spread included Mini Nathan’s Chili Dogs with Cheese and Onion, Chicken Wings with Honey Lime Sauce, Chile Queso Dip with Tortilla Chips, a Display of Crisp Crudités with Ranch Dipping Sauce, Kielbasa Skewers with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce, Housemade Guacamole & Salsa served with Tortilla Chips, Tomato, Basil & Mozzarella Skewers displayed in Wheat Grass, Football Shaped Frosted Sugar Cookies and finally Chocolate Decadent Brownies. The tailgate party was a great time, and caught the attention of more than a few passers by; one of which happened to be Christie Johnson and the King 5 News Team. Christie interviewed the group, and even took some photos with them! It might seem like a tailgate party of this nature would take a lot of time and planning for those organizing it, but since Cheryl and Kris had Green Apple's amazing kitchen at their disposal it was a breeze! Lucky for you just because you don't have an industrial kitchen doesn't mean you can't go big for playoff parties this year too:

Lastly, Green Apple is proud to say Go Hawks! It was an amazing day to be a Seahawks fan last Saturday! The 12th man literally shook Qwest Stadium with its roars and cheers for outstanding plays like Marshawn Lynch's touchdown. Our boys are headed to Soldier Field next to take down the Bears! The City of Sammamish Celebrates Local Volunteers at Holiday Party

Green Apple had the pleasure of working for a wonderful client last night; the city of Sammamish! The city treated its' volunteers to an amazing holiday party that included great drinks and a delicious buffet. City volunteers started off with a fresh and delicious Caesar Salad topped with House-made Garlic Croutons & Shaved Parmesan. Dinner consisted of a few options, the first being a Penne Pasta with Wild Mushrooms, Fresh Spinach, Peas, and Cracked Garlic in a light White Wine Cream Sauce. Another option was Green Apple's Lemon Thyme Chicken over Caramelized Onions. Guests enjoyed their salads and dinners with Freshly Baked Rolls with Whipped Herb Butter. Lastly, Chef Kari's famous cookies were provided for dessert. There were Coconut and Macadamia cookies, as well as classic Chocolate Chip cookies. As usual the desserts were rich and exquisite, and the perfect finish to a fantastic meal! In the crowd there was one vegan, and two gluten free folks. Green Apple made custom meals for all three people, and made sure everything met the standards of the aforementioned guests. Green Apple is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure no client has to sacrifice fun or flavor when they have a unique diet. All in all, the party went smoothly and guests seemed to be quite pleased; they even invited us back for next year's party on the spot! Thank you to the City of Sammamish for the opportunity! November 27 Wedding with Green Apple's First Client Booked

Green Apple has obviously done many events before this particular wedding, but these loyal clients were our first to book a wedding with us when we opened our kitchen. The wedding was amazing, and the guests were some of the most fun-loving and kind folks we have had the privilege of working with! The event was held at the very modern and attractive Georgetown Studios for 120 people. The mother of the bride and owner of Green Apple Kris Brown partnered on decor for the venue as it is a blank slate for each bride to customize. The theme ended up as a unique and elegant chocolate, green, and orange color scheme. The nights highlights entailed a great hors d'Oeuvres table, an espresso cart, a stocked bar, and a creative mix of a classic wedding cake and petite dessert selections. As a family owned business, Green Apple appreciates nothing more than seeing a family come together for a special event like a wedding to have a great time! These folks danced the night away, and all 120 guests in attendance participated in an awesome conga line! It was such a joy to help this wedding party create a night to remember for the family, and for the team at Green Apple to complete our first booking successfully! Sammamish Highlands Book Signing & Green Apple Cupcakes

Local Sammamish authors Debbie Rosment, Patty Pacelli, and Lonnie Pacelli recently partnered with the Sammamish Chamber of Commerce, the Sammamish Highlands Mail Post, and Green Apple Events & Catering to put on an awesome (and free!) book signing for the public. Not only were the authors a huge hit, but Patty Pacelli mentioned how much guests enjoyed the cupcakes as well. Green Apple likes nothing better than to get the word out about our delicious cuisine while helping to promote local authors. Office Update

With fall upon us, and the holiday season just around the corner, Green Apple has been a busy place lately! First off, we would like to thank our veterans for their service! The employees at Green Apple were thinking about how thankful we are to have people like our veterans to protect our freedom as we took our day of observance. On another note, we are also thankful for all of the wonderful clients we have worked with lately! It has been a joy to be a part of fall gatherings and harvest dinners.

Green Apple had the privilege to provide an excellent harvest dinner to one of our fantastic clients this last weekend. Guests started the meal off with a Butternut Squash Soup that was garnished with Cream Fraiche and Julienne Green Apples. Paired with the soup was a fresh Northwest Greens Salad that included Pears, Parmesan Cheese, and Pepitas tossed in a Champagne Vinaigrette. Guests were delighted by the soup and salad service! Green Apple surprised everyone by serving the soup out of real pumpkins! Dinner then consisted of Fresh Green Beans with Lemon Zest and Shallots, an amazing Pumpkin Risotto, and Spinach and Ricotta stuffed Chicken Breast. Northwest Events Show

The Green Apple team had a blast running the booth at the Northwest Events Show this year! Our booth got so many compliments thanks to the great decorations Cheryl and Kris put together (a fire and ice theme), and the mesmerizing ice sculptures crafted by Creative Ice in Kent. The food Green Apple brought to the event was a huge hit with clients touring the convention. Our amazing Chef Cari made Lamb Meatballs with a Tomato Spice Jam, Belgian Endive Spears with a Gorgonzola Mousse and Diced Pear, and finally Green Apple's famous Lavender Cupcakes! Rave reviews were given to all the food, and the cupcakes seemed to be one of the favorite desserts at the entire show based on how many got eaten! The Green Apple team had a fabulous time at the event, and everyone is excited about their new business connections and networking resulting from the show. City of Sammamish Chamber of Commerce Evening Event with Green Apple

Co-owner of Green Apple, Kris Brown, and sales assistant and Sammamish Chamber of Commerce representative, Nick Jensen, attended an awesome networking event last night. The event was held in the in-home showroom of Accents et cetera, Susan Huenefeld's company. Green Apple made sure no guests went hungry by providing Thai Peanut Chicken Satay, Belgian Endive with Gorgonzola Mousse with Pear, and Baked Brie with Peaches, Lavender and Anise. The food was a huge hit with the chamber members, and the event was way fun! Kris and Nick were delighted by the productive networking that occurred while enjoying such a relaxing evening! Thanks to Susan Huenefeld and her family for inviting the chamber members into their lovely home and showroom!

September 25 | Good Samaritan Episcopal Church 20th Anniversary

This last weekend Green Apple had the privilege of catering the 20th anniversary of the Good Samaritan Episcopal Church in Sammamish. Guests started the evening off with delicious hors d'oeuvres; tray passed Spanakopita and Fresh Tomato Bruschetta! The congregation then sat down to a family style meal that started off with Green Apple's "Northwest Salad", which includes greens, fresh herbs, crisp sliced apples, fresh berries and blue cheese tossed in balsamic vinaigrette. The main dish was Chicken Marsala (Chicken Breast stuffed with Gruyere and Dried Cherries and topped with Marsala Cream Sauce) and the sides included Green Beans with Roasted Shallots and Lemon Zest, as well as Penne Pasta with Wild Mushrooms, Fresh Spinach, Peas and Cracked Garlic. While this all was a delicious selection for the adults attending the event, many children seem to think Chicken Marsala is little too adventurous for their palates. As always, not a detail is left out when planning our menu and Green Apple had thought of this issue. Kids were delighted to dine on House-made Chicken Strips with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce as well as House-made Mac and Three Cheese. Children's side dishes included Applesauce Cups and Carrot and Celery Sticks with Ranch Dipping Sauce. At the end of the meal the entire congregation had Green Apple's famous Decadent Brownies and Lemon Bars for dessert! Working with the Good Samaritan Episcopal Church was truly a joy and an honor! We are excited to announce that Green Apple has joined the City of Sammamish Chamber of Commerce. Our sales assistant, Nick, attended our first luncheon yesterday, Thursday September 16. Nick accepted our Chamber of Commerce membership plaque and gave a short talk to the other Chamber members summarizing Green Apples business model and services. Everyone at Green Apple is looking forward to working with the City of Sammamish as well as the other Chamber members in the near future. Sustainable Sammamish Summary

The Sustainable Sammamish event was a huge success and tons of fun to participate in! Owner, Cheryl Seaton, and sales assistant, Nick Jensen, ran the booth together and showcased Green Apple's steps towards sustainability. The event was both an awesome networking tool and a great way to learn new techniques that will help our business become even more eco-friendly than we currently are. We are happy to announce that we have taken steps with the help of Puget Sound Energy towards making our office lighting more energy efficient. We will continue to dialogue with PSE to stay up to date with current eco-friendly techniques in the future as well. Green Apple would like to thank Dawn Sanders and Deb Sogge as well, for helping to get us involved with the Sustainable Sammamish event, and for their many volunteer hours put towards making Sammamish a better place! Conservation Changes at Green Apple

The Green Apple team have decided to start making changes in our business to lessen our impact on the environment. This includes things as simple as making sure to turn off lights and keep appliances unplugged when they are not in use, to changes as big as donating used oil for Bio Diesel, composting waste, and switching all disposable materials to compostable materials. For example, we have made the switch to Bagasse Sugarcane products that range from dining utensils to plates and bowls. These products are freezer safe, microwave safe, allergen free, and composts in 45 to 60 days in the commercial style compost facility Green Apple utilizes. Green Apple also prefers to buy local products whenever possible. Buying local reduces emissions and oil use as products that are shipped are usually carried on large fuel guzzling trucks. Owners Cheryl Seaton and Kris Brown our dedicated to making positive change around the office and in our business practice.

Green Apple is proud to announce its participation in the city of Sammamish's "Sustainable Sammamish" event. The event is on Wednesday, September 15, from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. Sustainable Sammamish promotes eco friendly business practice and will only feature businesses that strive to make positive changes to keep our planet green! As local farmers go hand in hand with sustainability this one time special event will be a part of the regular Wednesday Sammamish Farmers Market. Bio Diesel with Dave Shannon

Dave Shannon is a loyal client of European Car Authority in Redmond. European Car Authority is owned by the Seatons (Cheryl Seaton is co-owner of Green Apple), so naturally when Dave mentioned he was looking for more businesses to donate used cooking oil for his Bio Diesel operation, Cheryl referred him to Green Apple. These days Dave stops by every few weeks to pick up our used cooking oil. Mr. Shannon then takes the used oil to his home, where he converts it to Bio Diesel that powers his cars, motorcycle, and even his home when its running on a generator. Dave was kind enough to send us some photos, video and information regarding his Bio Diesel conversion operation. Check it out in the space below!

Step 1: Purchase the processor (A hot water heater)

Step 2: Build a couple wooden stands for the processor and oil tank

Step 3: Assemble the oil tank and processor

Step 4: Route power into the shed to run the processor (220 V and 120 V)

Step 5: Plumbing the pump and valves to the processor and oil tank

Step 6: Connect the oil tank, processor and methanol jug

Step 7: Connect the oil tank, processor and the wash tank

Step 8: 40 gallons of used cooking oil are clean and ready to be washed

Step 9: 40 gallons of Bio Diesel being washed (Water is gently mixed with the fuel via aquarium bubblers)

Step 10: Pour finished Bio Diesel into barrels for storage

Green Apple recently catered an amazing 50th birthday party on the shore of Lake Sammamish. The party was tons of fun, and the guests had a great time listening to the live band and dancing on the veranda until the wee hours of the morning. Our slider burgers and sweet potato fries at midnight seemed to be a hit! Guests of the party also got to enjoy a casino downstairs and really had a fantastic time gambling the night away! The night was a huge success, and the Green Apple team loved working in such a beautiful setting. Check out the photos of the event below!

Green Apple Events & Catering | Virginia V & Blue Angels

Our last event was a cruise through Lake Union on the Virginia V to watch the Blue Angels fly. Even though our servers worked extremely hard, they all said they felt more like they were having fun rather then working because of the Blue Angels flying overhead and the "Sea Fair" atmosphere. The Angels's are an amazing and elite set of pilots that are known for their extreme stunts and precise flying. The guests, and the green apple staff had a great time, and everyone was dazzled by the Blue Angel's as usual. Below are some pictures of the event!

On Monday night we catered at the Georgetown Ballroom in Seattle. The owner Jerry has a fantastic staff, and a very unique venue. He even brought his vintage Cadillac to the event to add to the scenery. This particular event was western themed, and as always Green Apple was willing to go the extra mile for our client by wearing western costumes while serving. We had some saloon girls, a gun slinger and a gambler working the event! The evening started with garlic prawns with lemon and rosemary and tiny twice baked potatoes with bacon and cheese. The potatoes were a huge hit with the cowboys and cowgirls attending the event! Our dinner menu included delicious flank steak, fried buttermilk chicken, cous cous salad, sweet corn, and corn bread. Guests enjoyed an open bar (lots of Patron shots & Corona with lime!), as well as gambling on the craps, poker, and black jack tables supplied by "A Casino Event of Seattle". Treehouse Point is located in Preston, Washington and is one of the most visually stunning venues Green Apple works with. This last weekend the Green Apple staff worked with the Treehouse Point staff to cater a wedding! The event was beautiful, and everything went smoothly thanks to everyone's hard work. It is truly a joy to work with Judy Nelson, and her employees! The menu for the special day started off with Belgian Endive with Gorgonzola Mousse topped with Smoked Salmon and Fresh Grapes. The guests then had a delicious salad with cucumber, radishes, and green onion tossed with a smokey paprika vinaigrette. The main course was Lemon Rosemary Grilled Chicken Thighs and Petite Free Range Hamburgers. Side dishes included Mac & Cheese with Hempler Pepper Bacon, Corn on the Cob with Herb Butter, and lastly Green Beans with

Shallots and a Balsamic Drizzle. The favorite of the night seemed to be the Belgian Endive appetizer as the guests were going for seconds, thirds and even fourths! Below are photos from the event.

Friday Floral Arrangements at Green Apple Events & Catering

Friday morning the Green Apple staff arrived to find our florist, Jen Brisson, hard at work on an amazing arrangement. Jen has a fantastic eye for picking decor when it comes to preparing for our events. This particular day Jen was designing an arrangement for a private party at one of our clients home. At Green Apple, we strive to adapt to any need a client has, and Jen went the extra mile by making sure the home decor would look excellent with her arrangements by sending pictures to the client before finalizing them.

Three tips for your next party table...

This week we are sharing three important elements for a beautiful buffet or party table. It's very simple and sure to impress your guests.

1. Table Linens - Color coordinate a tablecloth or linen with an additional piece of fabric (bunting fabric) for your table. The bunting fabic should be at least a couple feet longer & wider than the table. Cover the table with the tablecloth or linen and then use the bunting fabric to bunch on top of the table. You can find fun colors of fabric at any fabric store at very reasonable prices. I know Joann's provides a weekly coupon in the Sunday paper that helps bring down the cost significantly.

2. Height- Place items like books, bricks, crates, etc. to build height on your table under the bunting fabric to display your centerpiece and food platters. This adds interest and elegance to the table as well as providing a convenient spot to perch food, dips, condiments or additional decorations.

3. Décor - Choose a centerpiece such as fresh cut flowers, a candelabra or anything that compliments your table as a focal point. Placing solo flower buds throughout the bunting fabric is another impressive touch to your buffet. You could also scatter fruit, tealight candles, leaves, pumpkins (whatever fits the occasion) among the serving dishes for a spectacular display.

Bonus Tips:

Invest in a chafer for hot food. They add the perfect touch to a beautiful buffet and can be purchased for $30-$35 at stores like Costco or Cash n' Carry.

Place utensils and napkins at the end of the buffet so your guests can use their free hand to scoop their food onto their plates.
